How To Be Ever Happy

A guide to modern living

Like many other folks, I’ve been grappling with exactly what the fuck to do since January 20th. On top of the absolute shitstorm that is our government, we’ve been watching powerful people and entities left and right genuflect to Trump and Elon Musk in a way that is gross and alarming. Google is putting “Gulf of America” on their maps, Apple is advertising on X again (along with way too many others), Target and a host of other corporate entities are immediately retreating on even their very basic forms of rainbow capitalism. They are literally erasing trans people from all government websites, and working to erase us entirely from public existence. It’s a lot!

What’s a girl to do? I thought it would be instructive to write out how I get to where I get to as I grapple with where my money is going.

We are all making trade-offs. This isn’t meant to chastise anybody or put one above the other. We all have to figure out where those lines are however, I thought it would be an interesting exercise to explore where I draw those lines. And how do I do all of this and not just become a contrarian shut-in plugging my ears to the world?

Some things are easier to change than others. Some are so entwined in our lives that we have to learn what trade-offs we can live with, and which ones we cannot live without. But it’s also surprisingly easy
